The Trust Tairawhiti Eastland Helicopter Rescue team were tasked by Rescue Coordination Centre to search the Waimata Valley area for a locator beacon associated with an aircraft mayday call. We located an aircraft and pilot that had performed a forced landing. The pilot was uninjured, and we returned to base.
Our team were called to a car accident in Mohaka where a 31 year old female was injured. St John ambulance and Fire Emergency New Zealand from Wairoa were on scene. Our critical care flight paramedic worked with them to help extricate the patient who was in a critical condition. Another helicopter from our sister base in Taupo was called to help assist due to how critical the patient was. The patient was then flown in a stable but critical condition to Hawke’s Bay hospital by the Taupo Rescue Helicopter crew. We would like to thank St John and FENZ for their help with a difficult situation and showed great professionalism and teamwork. We would like to thank the two doctors from Wairoa and Hawke’s Bay for their help on the way into work.
