More hours in the air for rescue helicopter team

If the Trust Tairāwhiti Eastland Rescue Helicopter team had a feeling they’d been spending more time in the air, the figures show they were right. In the 12 months from January 24, the team logged a total of 572.83 flying hours . . . over 44 hours (8.5 percent) more than the recorded total for 2023.

That increase is partly due to the team’s completion of a good number of inter-region hospital transfers, a critical door-to-door service that gets patients where they need to be, when they need to be there.
