Doug joined the team in 2019. He did not start out in the rescue business. In 1994 he started a building career. He then went on to join the fire service in 1998 as a volunteer. In Doug's time in the fire service he worked his way up the ranks and became a Cheif Fire Officer of a busy urban brigade with 24 members. Doug also worked on the Rotorua rescue helicopter from 2014 to 2017, this was part of his role as a paid fire fighter in the Rotoura Fire brigade. From here he went firefighting until he took on his role in Eastland Helicopter Rescue Trust.
Geoff is originally from Christchurch. He has come to us from the airforce, where he spent 23 years servicing. Geoff started is career as a vehicle mechanic then spent 5 years as an Sirforce Recruit Instructor. He finished his career with 3 Squadron, flying both the Iroquois and NH90, where he was a senior crewman and instructor.
During his time in the Airforce, Geoff completed four operational deployments to Bougainville (1999), East Timor (2001 to 2002) and Sinai/Isreal (2011). Geoff comes to us with a lot of winching and Night Vision Goggles experience, he is keen to pass this knowledge on. Geoff's most enjoyoyable days flying was using a MAG58 machine gun to stop, destroy and sink 18 foot drone boats off the cost of Australia with the Australian Navy.
Geoff has moved to Gisborne with his wife Cheryl who is an occupational health nurse, they are both loving the weather and the people. Geoff also has a daughter and she lives in Auckland, where she is studying as a Vet Nurse.
