The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Ruatoria to pick up a male with a broken ankle. The ECT Rescue Helicopter team met the ambulance at the local rugby grounds and flew him back to Gisborne Hospital for further treatment.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter was scrambled to a skid site near Tauwhareparae in response to a forestry accident, where a male sustained a serious leg injury. The mission was undertaken with the support of St John staff, the patient being flown from the site to Gisborne Hospital.

An emergency locator beacon made a big difference yesterday when a side-by-side ATV a man was operating left a track on a property at Whatatutu and rolled about 100 metres down a bank.
The alarm was raised at midday yesterday and the ECT rescue helicopter with a St John paramedic team on board was sent to the scene.
He was flown to Gisborne Hospital for treatment.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter responded to a motor vehicle accident just north of Ruatoria. A 52-year-old male had been driving and hit a bridge abutment trapping him in the wreck. He was cut free, stabilised by a St John Intensive Care Paramedic, before being flown to Gisborne hospital in a serious condition. The use of Night Vision Goggles made this flight achievable.

Then at 10:25, the ECT Rescue Helicopter was sent to Te Puia Springs Hospital to uplift a 76-year-female with a medical condition. She was also transported to Gisborne Hospital for further treatment.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to an equestrian event near Te Karaka where a 46-year-old male had been kicked by a horse while riding on his. He received a rather nasty wound to his leg. He was attended to by St John Intensive Care Paramedics before being flown to Gisborne Hospital. Then, at 14:20, the ECT Rescue Helicopter was sent to Ruatoria to transport a 79-year-old male with a medical condition to Gisborne Hospital.

Easter proves busy for the ECT Rescue Helicopter

A busy Easter for the ECT Rescue Helicopter, which completed seven missions over the long weekend - attending a number of accident and emergency medical situations.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Te Araroa to uplift a 18-year-old male who had a suspected fractured as a result of being tackled playing rugby. He was flown to Gisborne Hospital for treatment.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter completed five missions with an extremely early start to the day aided by the use of night vision goggles.

At 1:50am, the ECT Rescue Helicopter was sent to an incident near Ruatoria where a man had been run over by a car.

On the flight back the crew was diverted to Te Puia Springs Hospital to uplift an expectant mum. She gave birth shortly after our arrival and mother and child were flown to Gisborne for observation.

At 9:30 the chopper returned to Te Puia to uplift a 76-year-old female with a medical condition.

Later that afternoon (14:45) the crew flew to Ruatoria to attend to a 77-year-old male suffering a medical event, and then to Tikitiki (at 16:40) to uplift a 76-year-old female suffering a medical event.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Waipiro Bay to attend to a kayaker whose kayak was swamped while fishing. He was treated at the scene by Intensive Care Paramedics, before been flown to Gisborne Hospital in a status two condition.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter responded to a forestry accident in the Mangatu Forest near Whatatutu. Intensive Care Paramedics from the Order of St John attended the scene. Then at 7:30pm, the ECT Rescue Helicopter transported a 4-year-old boy suffering from a suspected infection from Te Puia Springs Medical Centre to Gisborne Hospital.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Te Puia Springs Hospital to uplift a 51-year-old female who had crashed her motorcycle. She was rounding a bend when she hit a sheep on the road. She had a suspected fracture to her arm and was flown to Gisborne Hospital in a stable condition.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Tolaga Bay to attend to a 17-month-old child who had fallen from the back of a stationary vehicle. The child was attended to by a  John intensive care paramedic before being flown to Gisborne Hospital for treatment.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Te Puia Springs Hospital to collect a 16-year-old male who had fallen from a horse earlier in the day. He was flown to Gisborne Hospital with suspected fractures to various bones.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter responded to Ruatoria to assist with a 44-year-old male with a suspected fracture or dislocation. The gentleman had been looking for eels in a creek bed with his two young children when a horse appeared at pace. He moved the kids to safety before being struck by a car tyre that the horse was towing. He was flown to Gisborne Hospital in a stable condition under the watchful eye of a St John Paramedic.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Te Araroa to uplift a 61-year-old male suffering a medical event. He was flown to Gisborne Hospital in a stable condition for assessment.

13 - 14 January 2017

The ECT Rescue Helicopter was scrambled to Matawai at 10:28 on Friday morning, tasked with retrieving 59-year-old suffering a medical event. He was assessed by an St John intensive care paramedic and flown to Gisborne Hospital.

 An early start in the small hours of Saturday morning signalled a busier than usual Saturday. At 4:30am, the crew evacuated a patient with a suspected fracture to her leg from Te Puia Springs Hospital. The 86-year-old was assessed by an accompanying St John paramedic, prepared for flight and flown to Gisborne Hospital for treatment. This mission was flown with the aid of the night vision goggles.

 At 11:06, the ECT Rescue Helicopter returned to Te Puia Springs to uplift a 59-year-old male with who was suffering a medical complaint. He was also transported to Gisborne Hospital for assessment and treatment.

On Saturday evening, the ECT Rescue Helicopter  flew to Waihau Bay to attend to a one-year-old who had been run over by a car. He was assessed by a St John intensive care paramedic before being flown, in a stable condition, to Gisborne Hospital for treatment. Because the call came in at around 7:30pm, night vision goggles were also used to complete this flight.

3 January 2016 - 9 January 2016

This weekend has been extremely busy with the team completing five missions.

The first saw them head to Anara Bay to uplift a 53-year-old male who suffered a stroke at 8:50am on Saturday morning. At 1pm the chopper returned to the Coast, this time to Te Puia Springs Hospital to attend to a six-year-old girl who had broken her arm while playing.

In the early hours of Sunday morning the ECT Rescue Helicopter was called again to Te Puia Hospital, this time to a medical emergency. A 77-year-old male suffering shortness of breath was flown to Gisborne Hospital just after midnight – a mission only achievable with the use of night vision goggles.

At 9:50 on Sunday morning,  the chopper dashed to Hick’s Bay to pick up a 57-year-old  male who was in serious pain and suffering dehydration. He was transported to Gisborne Hospital for assessment and further treatment.

Then, at 2:45 the chopper was sent to a rural property in Te Karaka where a 31-year-old had lost control of a harvester. The driver suffered broken bones and was thought to have chest injuries. He was flown to Gisborne Hospital for further treatment.

Other missions last week included two missions to Te Araroa – one to rescue a 35-year-old with chest pains and the other to assist an 80-year-old with low blood pressure which was causing concern. And one mission to Te Puia to rescue a five-year-old girl with a broken arm.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Te Puia Springs to uplift a 24-year-old male with a fracture to his lower leg. He had been playing a family game of rugby when he fell on uneven ground resulting in the injury. He was flown to Gisborne Hospital for treatment.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Te Puia Springs to transport multiple patients who had been burnt in a gas cooker explosion. Two males and one female in their mid-twenties were flown to Gisborne Hospital with multiple burns to limbs. The actions of a nurse on scene at Tokomaru Bay have been praised by the campers.

The ECT Rescue Helicopter flew to Te Araroa to attend to a 19-year-old male with a shoulder injury. It is unclear as to how he sustained the injury, but he was flown to Gisborne Hospital for assessment as a precaution. Night vision goggles were used to complete this flight.
